The Dangers of Tire Negligence

Tires may seem like a small and insignificant part of a vehicle, yet the influence they have over a vehicle and its safety is understated. Worn tires, tire blowouts, and other tire problems attribute to 35% of all accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The most common causes of these tire blowouts and tire failures can stem from causes like under-inflation, high tire temperatures, low tread, and other obstacles from the road like nails or other debris. Unexpected road debris and hazards may be harder to avoid, but keeping tires operating at their best level is a good way to prevent these dangerous events from happening. These dangerous events have been on the rise and have been taking more and more innocent lives, all within the past week.

On Aug 31,2024, a Mississippi Bus crashed and killed 7 people while injuring 37. The cause of this accident appears to be a tire blowout that caused the bus to swerve and lose control.

This tragedy could have been prevented with proper tire care and tire monitoring to see if pressure or temperature reaches dangerous levels.

Another incident involving tire failure occurred in San Antonio on September 1st,2024. An SUV experienced a tire blowout, which caused the driver to swerve and crash into a tree along with 7 children. 6 children are in critical condition due to not wearing a seatbelt and being ejected from the vehicle. This gruesome story may have been prevented if the children were wearing seatbelts, and the entire accident may have been preventable with tire monitoring and proactive tire care.
